Marie M. Gustafson, 92, Springfield, formally of Canbridge, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, at Heritage Manor Continuing Care, Springfield.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday until the time of the services at the church. Burial was at Oakwood Cemetary, Geneseo.

Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Cambridge, was in charge of the arrangements.

The former Marie Minnie Gernant was born on Nov. 30, 1908, in Geneseo, the daughter of William and Martha (Maetzhold) Gernant. Her marriage to Lester Gustafson took place on June 19, 1930, in Genheseo. He died Oct. 14, 1986.

She attended Illinois State University at Normal. She taught country schools in the Geneseo area and kindergarten through sixth grade in Cambridge schools.

She was a member of the Cambridge Lutheran Church and the Cambridge Woman's Club. She had served as the PTA president, a Boy Scout leader, a Girl Scout leader, and a leader in 4-H.

Mrs Gustafson enjoyed her winters in Florida, painting,sewing, crafts, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary Ann DeFend, Springfield; a daughter-in-law, Cynthia Gustafson, Freeport; her grandchildren, Anatasia (Joe) Patterson, Fort Myers, Fla., Tyler DeFend, Schaumburg, Ky (Susan) Gustafson, Forreston, Marcia (Ethan) Fuller, Clarendon Hills, and Karl Gustafson, Boston; and great-grandchildren, Ky, Laura and Kayleigh Gustafson and Hanna and Joshua Fuller.

In addition to her husband, Marie was preceded in death by two sons Gary, and Bob; and a brother, Marvin Gernant.
