After graduating from Bertrand High School, Bertrand, NE, Wayne entered the U.S. Army, serving in Europe. He graduated from UNL in 1950, and was a long-time employee in the editorial department of the World Herald. Preceded in death by son, Joseph M. Johnson; sister, Ardyth (Jim) Fox. Survived by wife, Mary (McCurdy) Johnson; 4 children, Mark (Kathy) Johnson, Eric (Marlane) Johnson, Ann Johnson, Robb (Rick) Johnson; 7 grandchildren, Jessica, Matt, and Leigh Johnson, Andrew (Erin) Jamison Johnson, Caitlin (Mike) Castelaz, Madeline (Jonathan) Herrera, and Hannah Firestone; brother, Rev. Francis (Marian) Johnson; sisters, Florence (Burton) Holthus, Alyce (Rev. Russ) Bolm; nieces, nephews.
The family will receive friends Sunday 4-6pm at West Center Chapel. SERVICES Monday 1pm, West Center Chapel. Interment in Manley, NE, with Military Honors. Memorials to University of Nebraska Foundation.
