VICTIM OF DESPONDENCY

Ira Roth, an old-time resident of the Haxtun community, who was well and favorably known by many, succumbed to a dose of carbolic acid that he is thought to have swallowed on Monday afternoon.

Mr. Roth, with his wife and two children lived just at the southeast edge of the city on a farm. As the owner of the farm on which Mr. Roth was living is going to farm the land himself this year, Mr. Roth was making preparations to leave the farm. In pursuance of this plan a public sale to dispose of his farming implements and household goods had been announced for tomorrow.

No change in Mr. Roth’s nature that might account for this sudden deed had been noticed recently by his friends, but it was known that severe financial reverses which he has had during recent years have had their effect. The body was found by some people who were walking along the railroad track just east of town and at first it was thought he was asleep, so natural was the position in which it was found.

The coroner was immediately notified and took charge of the body. The funeral services were held this afternoon under the auspices of the Woodmen, of which organization he was a member.
