Noteringar

Emil Carl Allen, was born Nov. 29, 1863, in Sweden, son of John and Louisa Allen. He was one of a family of eight children, of whom three boys and two girls came to the United States. Emil grew to manhood in his native land. In 1888, he emigrated to the United States and located in Battle Creek, Michigan. A year later he went to Chicago where he worked in the brick yards and on street paving projects for some years and then spent some time in Ohio. In 1898, he located on 120 acres in Section 14, Dovre Township, Barron County. This was brush and stump land with no buildings. He put up a small frame house and there he and his wife and three children started to make a farm. He had little to start out with except his hands and a few small tools and was in debt for the transportation of his family from Ohio. That first fall he bought a cow, a horse, harness and a wagon with borrowed money. For nine winters he worked in the logging woods to pay his debts and improved the farm in the summers. Over time they developed a good farm with a nice set of buildings. On August 27, 1892, Emil was married in Chicago to Mary Malmquist, born August 13, 1886, in Sweden, daughter of John Erick and Caroline Malmquist, who came to the United States in 1887. Their three children were: Egbert, Roy and Walter (deceased). Egbert and Roy served in the United States forces during World War I. The children born on the farm in Dovre Township were: Joseph, Edward (deceased), Leslie, Gertrude and Irene. Joseph, born March 20, 1899, took over the operation of the home farm.Abstracted from page 824 of The History Of Barron County, Wisconsin, published in 1922, H.C.
